Historical Background & Heritage
Ghora Katora (literally 'Horse Bowl') is a picturesque natural lake surrounded by mountains on three sides. In Mahabharata legend, the royal horses of Magadha ruler King Jarasandha were brought here to drink clean mountain spring water.
In 2018, Bihar Tourism installed a magnificent 70-foot statue of Lord Buddha in the middle of the lake, carved out of 45,000 cubic feet of pink sandstone.
Spiritual Significance & Importance
Ghora Katora is maintained as a zero-emission eco-tourism zone. No petrol or diesel vehicles are allowed within 5 km of the lake. Visitors travel by electric rickshaws, horse-drawn carts (tangas), or bicycles through scenic forest trails.
Paddle boating around the colossal floating Buddha statue creates a deeply calming spiritual experience.
