Constructed across 191 hectares of native forest land at a cost of ₹177 crores, the Rajgir Zoo Safari was inaugurated in February 2022. It was designed as Eastern India's premier open wildlife sanctuary.

Unlike traditional zoos where animals are caged, at Rajgir Zoo Safari animals roam freely in vast natural enclosures while visitors travel inside armored glass buses.

The safari is divided into five distinct open zones: Herbivore Safari, Bear Safari, Leopard Safari, Tiger Safari, and Lion Safari. It plays a vital role in wildlife conservation, public education, and eco-tourism in Bihar.
